-It was the first formal method of Rhetorical Criticism developed in the communication field. Herbert Wichelns later broke down the central methods and described it as literary criticism from rhetorical critisicm.

-The first step is the person reconstructing the context in which the artifact occured. The second is applying the five canons to the artifact, and the last one is assesing the impact of the artifact on the audience.
What are the five canons of rhetoric?
-The first canon is Invention, which consists of the person coming up with ideas for their presentation. Second is organization, how the person arranges their presentation. Third is style, the way the presentaion is projected. Fourth is memory, knowing your subject with a clear knowledge of it, not needed the use of other props to help. Lastly delivery, how the person gives the speech and the way they use their voice and gestures.
